The Penguin Playoff Awards honor the best of Linux offerings showcased at LINUX Business Expo-Las Vegas, the only business-to-business event for the Linux community. LINUX Business Expo-Las Vegas is co-located with COMDEX/Fall at the Sands Convention Center, running November 13-17, 2000.

The Best Web Solution award was orginially given to an alternate exhibitor, however after a change in exhibitor status they were disqualified and the award was given to the first runner up, Workspot. “Workspot is doing for applications what the web did for documents — replacing the buggy, virus-infected, unmaintainable mess on most unfortunate people’s desktops with a simple web-based model,” said¬†Linux Journal¬†Technical Editor, Don Marti. WorkSpot was founded in January 1999, with headquarters in Palo Alto, CA. WorkSpot first released a web-based Linux desktop in October 1999.
